Francis Leo, son of James J. and Anna Rhody Farrell, was born February 22, 1889 in Jefferson Township, Adair County, Iowa and passed away July 11, 1981 at Madison County Hospital in Winterset, Iowa.

On June 18, 1935 he was married to Mary E. Nolan at Immaculate Conception Church in Malloy, Iowa. This union was blessed with two sons.

His many interests included memberships in Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Veterans of World War I.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Monahan, and three brothers, Miles, Edwin and Vincent.

Surviving are his wife Mary, sons, James M. and his wife Sandra, of Keokuk, Iowa, and John P. and his wife Irma, of Lakewood, Colorado; three grandsons, one sister, Mrs. John (Claire) Nevins, of Stuart, one brother, James Lester of Des Moines, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral mass was celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Ryan on Monday, July 13, 1981 at All Saints Church in Stuart, Iowa. Assisting at the altar were Tim Doud, Damian Lonsdale and Matthew Wagner. Vocal music was rendered by Miss Kathy Doud, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Debbie Wilson. Boyd Welsh and Francis Wagner ushered. Serving as casket bearers were Jim Nevins, Joe Nevins, Bernard Nevins, Charles Melroy, Larry Nevins and John Farrell. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Start, following military graveside services by James McGhee Post #146.
