Effie Mills was born in Madison County, Iowa, September 29, 1884, and departed this life January 30, 1914, at the age of 29 years, 4 months and 1 day. She moved with her parents to Stuart when she was four years old, and resided here until she was married to Mr. John L. Thornton of Dexter December 10, 1902. They resided in Stuart two years, then moved to Dexter where she lived the remainder of her life.

She was converted at the age of sixteen and remained a conscientious Christian woman. She has always been in delicate health and tried to bear all her suffering with fortitude. Many virtues made her life commendable, one deserving special mention, her thoughtfulness for her parents under all conditions. Amid her own cares, which were many, she always remembered the parents, who with her husband, one brother and his wife, survive her.

Mrs. Thornton died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mills, who reside near Menlo, having gone there about two weeks previous to stay during the absence of her husband from home.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock at the Christian church at Stuart, conducted by Rev. Couch, the pastor.

The pall bearers were: Levi Jones, Clarence Johnston, Elmer Hadley, Frank Johnston, Fred Delahoyde, and H. L. Hackthorn.
