Henry Adolph Kauffman, son of Jacob and Anna Kauffman was born Oct. 10, 1881, on a farm south of Dexter in Madison county where he spent the early years of his life. In infancy he was received in the fellowship of the church through the sacrament of Holy Baptism, and was confirmed in the Lutheran church in 1901.

He moved to South Dakota when a young man where he lived for 20 years. In 1907 he was united in marriage to Vinnie Anderson of Stickney, S. D. To this union were born two daughters, Florence Lenz of Algona and Naomi Snook of Des Moines.

August 31, 1929 he was married to Bessie M. Waller of Des Moines. They resided on the farm home south of Dexter until 1941 when they moved to a farm one mile south of Dexter on Highway 6 where they were living at the time of his death.

Thursday afternoon July 28 he was seriously injured in a highway accident and departed his life on Friday morning July 29.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bessie; two daughters, Florence Lenz of Algona, Naomi Snook of Des Moines; two brothers, Adolph of Long Beach, Calif.; William Tell of Estherville; three sisters, Laura Leff of Menlo, Amelia Penn and Suvilla Kauffman of Dexter; seven grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

The days of his life numbered 67 years, 9 months and 17 days.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with Rev. Diab officiating. The vocal music was rendered by William Waller, nephew of Mrs. Kauffman with Mrs. Paul Clausen at the organ. Casket bearers were Lawrence Marsh, F. D. Clausen, Leonard Nelson, Roy Hammond, Walter Clausen and Carl Jensen.
