Page 8, Column 5Jennie May Skinner, daughter of Hiram and Margaret Skinner was born in Madison County, Iowa June 17, 1876 and departed this life January 5, 1974, at the age of 97.
On November 7, 1894 she was united in marriage to Ferdinand J. Schmidt. Two children were born to this union, a son and a daughter. She and her husband lived on farms in the Dexter, Menlo and Stuart communities until the year 1919 when they retired, moving to a home in Stuart.
After her husbands death, January 1, 1944, Mrs. Schmidt continued to live here. On September 1, 1969 because of her failing health she gave up her home and went to live at the Adair Community Health Center in Adair, Iowa for two years, later at Maple Lin Manor in Earlham.
When a young girl she united with the Fairview Christian Church. After moving to Stuart she attended the Christian Church, later transferring her membership there where she was always ready to help in the church and Circle as long as she was able.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Stuart, from which she received her fifty year Jewel a few years ago.
Mrs. Schmidt leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Lula M. Kane of West Des Moines, two granddaughters Leota Moore, Chicago, Illinois, Carolyn Sessions, Des Moines, Iowa; one great granddaughter, Wendy Sessions, three step grandchildren Stanley Kane and Mary Ann Kane and Wilma Head of Des Moines, and six great step grandchildren; one sister Stella Wetrich of Earlham and other relatives and friends. Her son, Lloyd L. Schmidt of Des Moines preceded her in death, also one brother Lew W. Skinner of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She loved her home and was never happier than when working in her garden and yard with her flowers of which she was always ready to share with her neighbors and friends.
In time of trouble she was always ready to help in whatever way she could. She loved attending her church and was always present as long as she was able to do so. Her cheerful disposition has endeared her to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
