Page 4, Columns 4 & 5James Truman Gilbert, son of Elias and Mary Shambaugh Gilbert, was born Oct. 12, 1868 in Madison county and passed away Jan. 14, 1952 at his home near Glendon at the age of 83 years, three months and two days.
On February 21, 1893, he was united in marriage to Ossa Mae Wheeler. They made their home in Madison county until 1899 when they moved to their home in Guthrie county near Glendon. His son, Omer and family, have made their home with his father, helping each other in his time of need.
To this union were born seven children, six girls and one boy. They are Mae Garrett, Winterset; Emma Lyst, Stuart; Della Knight Wheeler, Ronan, Mont.; Orilda Flesher, Waukee; Chloe Ross, Hayes Center, Nebr.; Omer, Menlo; and Lorna Bookout, North Platte, Nebr.
His wife, Ossa, preceded him in death Nov. 3, 1930, and also preceding him are two grandchildren, Della Dee Knight and Melzine Ross, and one great grandson, Lewis Hoffman.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his seven children, 33 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, a brother, Charlie at Lorimor and a host of nieces and nephews.
Truman had been in poor health for several years and has been a patient sufferer, never complaining to the end. He was a good father, citizen and kind neighbor and will be missed by all those who knew him.
Rev. Ernest Smith, assisted by Rev. Everett Staats, had charge of the services at the Menlo, Jan. 17. The burial was at the Rose Hill cemetery.
Music was by Mrs. Everett Roe and Mrs. Art Hanner with Mrs. Evan Berry at the piano. Flowers were in charge of Doris Miller and Lucy Kinsey. Casketbearers were Ted Rote, Harmon Miller, George Mains, Frank Crowder, Burl Kinsey and Henry Armstrong.
