James J. Doud, son of Patrick and Bridget Doud was born May 2, 1857 in St. Louis, Mo., and passed away at the Eggen Nursing home in Casey at the age of 95 years, six months and 12 days.

At the age of two he came with his parents to the Irish settlement near Winterset. He attended school in Madison county.

On Oct. 10, 1876 he was united in marriage to Alice Hartley in the Old St. Patrick’s church near Bevington by Father Gaffney. To this union were born seven sons and three daughters.

He was preceded in death by two sons, John E. of Lancaster, Ohio and Leo of Stuart, also a son and a daughter who died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife Alice, six children, Thomas A., Mrs. A. W. Cox of Council Bluffs, Joe, James R., Mrs. D. J. Burns and Gene of Lancaster, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

A Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Father O’Donnell in the All Saints church on Nov. 17.

Pallbearers were R. C. Lydon, John Wagner, John S. Lydon, Mart Tobin, John Nevins and Frank Shea.

Interment was in the Calvary cemetery.
