Roy Kalbach, 59 Dies Thursday

Roy S. Kalbach, 59, died suddenly at his home last Thursday afternoon, as the result of a heart attack.

He was a native of Madison county, and had lived in the Fairview vicinity in Harrison township for the past 31 years.

Survivors include his wife and five children, Marguerite Lillie of Dexter; Evelyn Taylor of Miami, Fla.; Alice Smith of Savage, Minn.; Kenneth of Menlo and Donald of Dexter.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Fairview church, with burial in the Fairview cemetery.

Roy S. Kalbach was born in Penn township, Madison county, Dec. 16, 1896. He was the son of John and Mathilda Kalbach. His early years were spent on the farm and he attended rural schools and was graduated from Earlham High School. He taught school for four years in Penn township. He had farmed in Harrison township, Adair county for the past 31 years.

May 31, 1920 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Doris Pearson to which union there was born five children, Marguerite Lillie of Dexter, Evelyn Taylor of Miami, Fla., Alice Smith of Savage, Minn., Kenneth Kalbach of Menlo and Donald Kalbach of Dexter.

In addition to his widow, Mr. Kalbach is also survived by 15 grandchildren, one brother, John of Dexter; three half-brothers, two half-sisters and his stepmother, Mrs. John Kalbach of Leota, Kans.

His father, mother and one brother, Harry preceded him in death.

He was a faithful Christian to the end which came suddenly Thursday afternoon, Sept. 20 at his home. He had not been well for the past several months but had kept working on his farm and keeping active in many community and church affairs in which he was virtually interested.

He united with the Penn Center Methodist church in his youth and transferred his membership to Fairview church when it was reorganized . The church to him was an object of great love, devotion and sacrifice. He had been superintendent of the Sunday School at Fairview for several years, was president of the Mens Brotherhood, and was teacher of the High School class. Also he and his wife served as the adult sponsors of the Pilgrim Youth Fellowship. He will be greatly missed in the church and community.

Funeral services were conducted from the Fairview church, Sunday, Sept. 23 with Rev. Robert N. D. Yoak officiating. Music was presented by Mrs. Richard Thomas, organist and Robert Lawson and Howard McCorkel. Casketbearers were Phillip Umbaugh, Ralph Wolverton, Cecil Parkison, Charles Cooper, Irvin Denning and Dale Woodard. Interment was in the Fairview cemetery.
