Page 2, Columns 6 & 7William H. Skellenger, son of Chance and Lizza Skellenger, was born in New York state on May 13, 1863 and died in the hospital on July 30, 1955 at the age of 92 years, two months and 17 days. He was the second child in a family of six children, all but one of whom have preceded him in death.
He came to Madison county, Iowa with his parents when he was just a small child. After living in a number of different places the family finally bought a home near Casey where the children grew to maturity.
William Skellenger farmed near Stuart and in a number of other communities, however he lived most of the time on a farm near Knoxville. His wife died in 1948 and since that time, he has made his home with his various relatives.
He is survived by one brother, Oren Skellenger of Menlo. There are also many nieces and nephews besides cousins and other relatives.
He was a 50-year Odd Fellow and a member of the Knoxville Methodist church. He was a quiet man who talked little, but had many friends.
Funeral services were held from the Bufkin Funeral home Tuesday, Aug. 2, conducted by Rev. Ernest Smith. Music was presented by Robin Lawson, pianist, and Robert Lawson. Casketbearers were Wayne Draman, Chester Skellenger, Charles Skellenger, Kenneth Powell, Max Skellenger and Fred Draman.
