Walter L. Lyddon was born May 3, 1884 in Taylor county near Lenox, Iowa. At an early age he joined the Presbyterian church. He attended the public schools near and in Lenox. He moved to Madison county in 1900 with his parents, William Lyddon and Olive Page Lyddon.

In 1902 he moved to a farm just south of Stuart in Adair county, where he was united in marriage on Sept. 26, 1906 to Mae Collins, who preceded him in death on Apr. 6, 1954. To this union was born a son, Ivan Lyddon and a daughter, Lucille Lyddon.

He spent a good many years in the grain elevator business. In later life he studied to become a painter and interior decorator.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ida Hayes and Ina Hochstetler, and two brothers, Roy and John.

He leaves to mourn his death a daughter, Lucille Lyddon, a son, Ivan Lyddon, a daughter-in-law, Stella Lyddon, two granddaughters, Patricia Anne Smeltzer and Jane Ellen McLouth, and one grandson, Ivan Lyddon, Jr. and five great grandchildren, Johnny and Michael Smeltzer, Beth, Daniel and Michele McLouth. Also two brothers, Orville of Menlo and Arthur of Adair and two sisters, Ona Cady of Ainsworth and Mae Carter of Dexter.

Funeral services were held from the Bufkin Funeral Home, Monday afternoon, June 17 with Rev. Robert N D. Yoak officiating. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. D. E. Belgard, Miss Jane Scholl and Mrs. Ralph Faessler. Casketbearers were Bill Rogers, E. J. Delaney, Bill Beattie, Gilbert James, Holes Jones and Harold Cronkhite. Interment was in South Oak Grove cemetery.
