Earnest David Conway was born Sept. 7, 1879 in Madison County north of Winterset.

His parents were William and Emma Gabbert Conway.

Earnest passed away at Still hospital, Des Moines, June 5, 1959 at 3:05 a.m. at the age of 79 years 8 months and 28 days.

On October 14, 1920 he was united in marriage to Mabel Olive Campbell in Sioux City.

To this union were born 2 children, Vivian Ellen who passed away in infancy and Mary Kathryne, now Mrs. Jack Boots.

He was a faithful follower of Christ and was a willing helper in his work. He was a loving husband and father.

His life’s occupation was farming and he was well known for the horses he raised. He was in partnership with his brother Frank. They were known as the Conway Bros.

He moved with his parents to Adair county in 1894 and resided on this farm until 1927. From there he purchased the farm west of Menlo, on highway 6. Because of ill health he retired and moved to Stuart in April 1947.

He was the son of a Civil War veteran. He tried to enlist in the Marines of World War I but was too old.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Minnie.

Surviving him are his wife Mabel, one daughter, Mary, a son-in-law, Jack Boots, two grandchildren, Carol and Dean Boots, a brother Frank, of Casey, a niece, Mrs. Richard Walters of Lenox, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, June 8th from the Bufkin Funeral Home, Rev. Roland Wendell, Rev. Edna Hutchins and Rev. Robert Holloway officiating. Music was presented by Robin Lawson, organist. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Ralph Reed and Mrs. Arlo Van Scoy. Casketbrearers were Ralph Reed, Arlo Van Scoy, Reuben Blomquist, Dale Lomax, Art Jensen and Floyd R. Boots. Interment was in South Oak Grove cemetery.

Relatives attending the services from out of town include John Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Campbell, Mrs. H. W. Campbell and Mrs. E. J. Jones of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. John Kohnen of Sioux Falls, S. D., Frank Conway of Casey and Mrs. Dick Walters of Lenox.
