Page 5, Column 6Madison Jacob Little was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, July 9, 1855. He died in Stuart, Iowa, June 13, 1949, aged 93 years, 11 months and 4 days.
Mr. Little came west with his parents to Henry county, Illinois when he was five years old. He grew to manhood there and then came to Iowa in the spring of 1881. He returned to Illinois in the fall of that year to unite in marriage with Malinda O. Liggett. The couple then located on a farm in Madison county, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death February 28, 1936. Since that time Mr. Little has lived in or near Stuart, Iowa.
To Madison Little and his wife Malinda were born 11 children, 8 of whom grew to manhood and womanhood in this vicinity. Five of them are still living. They are Mrs. Arthur Hansen of Webster, S. Dak.; Arthur, Mrs. Ed Hanson and Jake of Stuart, and Howard of Dexter. Three of Mr. Little’s sons served in World War One, Omar, Jake and Clark. Jake is still living. The immediate surviving relatives are Arthur, Cora Hanson, Howard, Mrs. Irene Hanson, and Jake. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
The interment was in Fairview cemetery beside his wife and two children.
Mr. Little was an honest, hard working man who enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. He continued to be quite active until the last ten years of his long life.
As a fitting illustration of his character, the generosity of his nature and kindliness of his heart when he took into his own home to raise a homeless four year old boy. That he raised to manhood, and lived to see him serve his country in the last World War. His name is William F. Hillenbran, who survives his benefactor.
