Page 6, Columns 4 & 5Samuel Frederick Buchanan, son of Minnie J. and James H. Buchanan, was born May 22, 1890 in Cass county, Iowa and departed this life in an auto-train accident near Earlham, Sept. 24, 1947, at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 2 days.
At the age of 12 years he moved with his parents to a farm southeast of Adel, where he grew to manhood attending the public school and Adel high school, graduating with the class of 1910. He also graduated from the Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. He was employed in Des Moines for a number of years until his health forced him to give up office work. He then went west and worked for his uncle on a fruit ranch.
About ten years ago he moved to Dexter, where he had since lived and worked as a carpenter.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and became a member of the Christian church at Adel where he was an earnest worker with young people. He also worked in the Central Christian church in Des Moines. At the time of his death he was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in Dexter.
He was united in marriage to Miss Lenore Clausen on Sept. 1, 1946.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two sisters.
He leaves to mourn his tragic death, his loving wife, his father, James H. Buchanan of Dexter and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Stella M. Chase, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Bertha M. Eben, Des Moines; Mrs. Viola H. Johnson, Williams; Mrs. Ida M. Cox, Dexter, Charles R., Winneconi, Wisc.; James H., Corona, Cal.; William H., Danville, Ill.; and Richard A., Gowrie.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Dexter Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. Burial at Dexter.
