October 14, 1918 - November 12, 2017

Martha Lorimor, 99, of Earlham, died Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Westview Care Center of Indianola.

A visitation with family present will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset.

A graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 16, at the Penn Center Cemetery, Madison County.

Memorials in Martha’s name may be directed to The Friends of the Earlham Public Library.

Martha June Weaver, daughter of Shelby and Letha (Russell) Weaver, was born October 14, 1918, in Tabor, Iowa. She graduated from Tabor High School and went on to receive her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. She was united in marriage with Alden “Red” Lorimor on February 20, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2012.

Martha taught fourth grade for a time at Bartlett Schools prior to her marriage. After her marriage, she was a homemaker and farmwife helping with the many activities a family and farm required. She stayed at home until her children were raised and did some substitute teaching in Earlham later in her working years.

She was an active member of the Earlham Presbyterian Church, a member of the Chautauqua Club and the Iowa Angus Auxiliary. Martha grew up in a restaurant and loved to cook for people. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed making cornhusk dolls. Above all else, Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who cherished the time spent with family and friends.

Martha is survived by her three children, Janice (Richard) Scar of Buena Vista, CO, Deb (Jerry) Porter of Indianola, and Jeff (Peg) Lorimor of Earlham; nine grandchildren, Ken Scar, Kathy Scar-Brown, Richard Lorimor, Ray Lorimor, Nina Lorimor-Easley, Craig Porter, Phil Porter, Steve Porter, and Jacque Porter-Perkins, and; 21 great-grandchildren, Alden Scar, Adyson Scar, Liz Brown, Sophie Brown, Claire Lorimor, Tassew Lorimor, Yetta Lorimor, Kacey Reynolds, Clay Reynolds, Zaiden Easley, Nick Porter, Frankie Porter, Jackson Porter, Katie Porter, Paige Porter, Alanah Vettrick, Ethan Vettrick, Dakota Perkins, Jack Perkins, Taylor Perkins, and Adam Grady; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alden; three brothers, Elmore, Winston “Wink”, and Lyle; and a sister, Beth.
