Matilda H. was born to William and Lydia Beam Schmidt on December 7, 1887 on a farm in Madison County, Iowa and passed away at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa on April 9, 1981.

She grew up on the farm and at an early age moved with her parents to Stuart, Iowa where she spent the rest of her life.

After taking a dressmaking course, she became a seamstress for many years, sewing and designing dresses.

She continued to live in Stuart after her marriage to Burrell Hain. They purchased and moved to an acreage at the north edge of town, where she enjoyed raising chickens, making garden and caring for her beautiful flowers which she shared with her friends. She lived on their acreage for 58 years, even after her husband passed away in 1957. Due to failing health she entered the Community Care Center on June 6, 1972 and resided there until her death.

For many years she had been a member of the Stuart Christian Church and had always enjoyed the many programs at the Community Care Center.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, nine brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and friends.

The Rev. Douglass Clark officiated at the funeral service on April 11, 1981 at the Link Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Debbie Wilson. Caring for the floral tributes were Mrs. Winnifred Ratliff and Mrs. Florence Cook. Casket bearers were Walt Hick, Clair McBride, Bert McBride, Dale Lomax, Gary Wilson and George Gilliam. Interment was in South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
