Jonathan B. McGinnis was born in Madison County, Iowa, January 27th, 1856, and died at his home Feb. 2nd, 1931, aged 75 years and 5 days.

He came with his parents to this community when six years old and has lived in Adair County practically all his life.

He was united in marriage to Miss Hattie M. Sailor July 23rd, 1885. To this union were born two sons, Clement and Sidney. Mrs. McGinnis died July 31, 1892 and Sidney died in France Sept. 21, 1918.

Mr. McGinnis re-married Sept. 13th, 1896, to Miss Jenny Julian and to this union were born two children, a son and a daughter, both dying in infancy and Mrs. McGinnis died Jan. 21, 1917.

Mr. McGinnis was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge, Number 697, of Menlo, Iowa.

In early life he was converted and united with the Christian church at Loucks Grove. He took an active part in the church he loved. He was a good singer and was a member of the choir for many years. He was the teacher of the Women’s Bible Class at the time of his departure.

After the death of his second wife, he made his home for about three years with the Earl Rogers family.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his son, Clement McGinnis and wife, Thursa; and one grandson, Cloyce Luverne; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hines of Kansas, Mrs. Mary Kirlin, of Greenfield, Iowa; and two brothers, John L. McGinnis of Greenfield and Albert McGinnis of Stuart, besides many other relatives and friends.

He was a kind loving husband and father and an ideal Christian neighbor, loved by all who knew him, being an especial friend of children and young people.

Funeral services were held at Loucks Grove church on Wednesday, February 4th, 1931, conducted by Rev. Lester Proctor, who is their regular pastor at the present. Rev. O. R. Jones, pastor of the Methodist church of Menlo, Iowa, assisted with the services and the I.O.O.F. lodge of Menlo took charge at the grave.

The following members acted as pallbearers: Mr. Frank Rigdon, Mr. --- Davis, Mr. Harmon Miller, Fred Bateham, Mr. Wallis --- and Mr. Vern Partlow. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
