Bertha Pearl, daughter of Delila Matilda Cox and Jesse Kursy James, was born November 18, 1896 in Adair, Iowa and succumbed to God’s loving hands early Friday morning, September 8, 1978 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa.

In 1916 she was united in marriage to Carl Jensen and seven children were born to this union. Carl passed away in July, 1955. Five years later on August 20, she was married to Lester Summy, of Redfield, Iowa.

Besides her family, another great love of Bertha’s was her membership in the Rebekah Lodge of Menlo. For the past year she had been residing at the Craft Care Center in Panora, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, one sister, three children and her husbands, Carl and Lester.

Surviving are her children: Willis Jensen and his wife Margaret, of Stuart, Iowa; Lucille Draman and her husband Roy, of Orient, Iowa; Marie Cochran, of Macksburg, Iowa; and Lora Nungesser and her husband, Francis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; several step-children; many friends and other relatives.

Rev. Robert Stone officiated at the funeral service on Monday, September 11, 1978 at the United Methodist Church in Menlo, Iowa. Larry Sanborn provided vocal music, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Larry Sanborn. Caring for the floral tributes were Mrs. Eva Trent, Mrs. Geneva Colbert, and Mrs. Robert Miller. Serving as casket bearers were Don and Steve Nungesser, Carl and Bob Cochran and Kenneth and Richard Draman. Interment was in Sunyhill Cemetery, Adair, Iowa.
