Obituaries

WILLIAM OGBURN

Mr. William Ogburn passed away quite suddenly on Saturday evening, Feb. 8, 1958, at 11:15 p.m. at the home of one of his granddaughters, Mrs. Rokell Yearington of Corning, where he had been staying for several months.

Mr. Ogburn was born to John and Martha Ogburn on Sept. 16, 1875, at Palmyra, in Warren county. He is the youngest of their eight children, three boys and five girls, and he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

Early in William’s life the Ogburns moved to Madison county where he grew up, then in 1906 he moved to Corning where he and his family have resided ever since until his death at 82 years. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Corning and was a respected citizen of the community.

Those preceding Mr. Ogburn in death are his parents, his brothers, and sisters, his wife, Lena Belle, who died in September, 1949, and four grandchildren. Those remaining to mourn his passing: daughters, Mrs. Glen Shearburn and Mrs. Hugh Law, his sons, Gail and Byron, all of whom live in Corning. Also Wayne Ogburn of Mohalla, Ore., three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-laws.

There are 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Ogburn was known over a wide area as an authority on livestock diseases and as an honest helpful friend in time of need. His ready smile and staunch character will be missed by all those close to him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 11, 1958, from the Roland
Funeral home in Corning, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Joe Wallace, with music by Mrs. John Narigon, accompanied by Mrs. Hade DeVore.

Pall bearers were Ed Wheatley, Kenneth Lucas, Otto Sundstrom, Floyd Dotson, Walter Nelson and Oscar Lynam.

Burial was in Prairie Rose cemetery.
