MRS. WILLIAM OGBURN

Lena Belle, daughter of Nelly and Mattie Sawhill, was born September 7, 1882, at Chambersburg, Illinois, and departed this life September 15, 1949, at the age of 87 years and 8 days. While a small child they moved to Peru, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

On February 14, 1900, she was united in marriage to William Ogburn, and to this union five children were born. They are Gail, Wayne and Byron Ogburn, all of Corning: Mrs. Glen Shearburn and Mrs. Hugh Law of Corning. She leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband, five children and 12 grandchildren; also four brothers and three sisters. Had she lived until February 14th they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

The following are the surviving brothers and sisters: Mrs. George Benton, St. Joseph, Mo.; William Sawhill, Truro, Iowa; Benjamin Sawhill, Seibert, Colo.; Albert Sawhill, Des Moines, Iowa; Agie Sawhill, Sagle, Idaho; Mrs. Reva Wolfe, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Zelia Yonts, Vona, Colo. Also several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren.

In early years she united with the Christian church of Peru, Iowa. Some forty years ago, she with her husband and family moved to Corning, Iowa, where she later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church. She loved her Christ to whom she was faithful until the end. She was a great lover of flowers and the wonders of nature and loved to read the Bible and was very familiar with its truth. She was a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor, and will be missed by all who knew her.

The Watcher

She always leaned to watch for us,
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate;

And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care.
The long way home would seem more safe,
Because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.

Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late—
Watching from Heaven’s window,
Leaning from Heaven’s gate.

Services for Mrs. Ogburn were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon from the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. B. D. Bradbury. Burial was made in Prairie Rose cemetery.

Music was furnished by Kenneth Bickford, John Riegel, Harold Campbell and Chet Fox. Pianist was Maxine Narigon. Pall bearers were Del Mercier, Bert Huntsman, Otto Sundstrom, Walter Nelson, Ed Wheatley, Chance Murphy.
