Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Craven, 79, were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11 from the Evans Funeral Home in Dexter. She passed away Friday, Sept. 9 at the Garwood Nursing Home in Dexter.
Mrs. Craven was born in Madison county but the greater part of her life had been spent in Stuart. For the past five years she had resided in the Garwood Nursing Home at Dexter.
Survivors include six children, Lyle Craven of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Jess Tate of Des Moines, Mrs. J. P. Moraine of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. John Baxter of New Providence, Mrs. Roy Freese of Springville, and Mrs. Letcher Lynn of Spring Valley, Calif. Also three sisters, Mrs. Fonda Saylor of Stuart, Mrs. Joe Sanderson of Des Moines and Mrs. Amanda May of La Junta, Colo., and one brother, Henry Thompson of Johnson, Kans.
Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery at Stuart.

Page 7, Column 5Nancy Jane Thompson was born January 18, 1881 in Madison county, north of Winterset and passed away Sept. 9, 1960 at Dexter.
Her parents, Robert L. Thompson and Henrietta Thompson preceded her in death.
She was married Dec. 12, 1900 to Loren Craven. To this union were born seven children: Lyle T. of Spokane, Wash., Raymond A. (deceased) Jacksonville, Fla., Loreah Tate, Des Moines, Creta Morain of Minneapolis, Minn., Thelma Baxter New Providence, Janet Freese, Springville, Geraldine Lynn, Spring Valley, Calif.
At an early age she joined the United Presbyterian church and remained a member until her marriage when she joined the Friends church and maintained these beliefs until her death.
Besides her family she leaves to mourn her loss, three sisters, Amanda May of La Junta, Colo., Fonda Saylor of Stuart, Eunice Sanderson of Des Moines; one brother, Henry Thompson of Johnson, Kans. Two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death, three sisters in infancy.
Nancy was a good mother and wife, sewing, raising gardens and such to help the family budget and to keep the children in school. She instilled in her children a desire for an education, love of music and her Christian beliefs which will be handed down from generation to generation.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11 from the Evans Funeral Home at Dexter with the Rev. John H. Baxter officiating. Music was presented by Mrs. K. M. Chapler, pianist and Mrs. John H. Baxter, Soloist. Nellie McKinney and Florence Spiker were in charge of flowers. Casketbearers were the nephews of the deceased. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery at Stuart.
