Pauline Rose Noland, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Services were held Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at Kuhn Funeral Home, Earlham with Jim Noland officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Honorary urn bearers were all of Pauline’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Inurnment of cremains was in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Earlham.

Pauline R. Noland was born the daughter of Chester and Maggie (Pearson) Smith on the family farm in rural Madison County on Nov. 28, 1920. She attended country school in Madison County, and graduated from Earlham High School in 1940.

On Sept. 10, 1941, Pauline and Carroll Noland were married in Kirksville, Mo. This union was blessed with three sons: Joe, Jim and Don.

Pauline was the bookkeeper for the family construction business, was involved with some wallpapering, and did lots of painting and varnishing for the company. During the summer, the family would travel to Lake Vermillion, Minn., to the family cabin. Pauline and Carroll wintered in Florida and Texas from 1982 until 1997.

Pauline loved doing crafts and making jewelry. She had a large collection of seashells. She was an accomplished seamstress, and made most of her own clothes and many for her family, including several wedding dresses.

Pauline was a Sunday school teacher, and worked with the youth group at Bible school and church camps teaching them, using her crafting skills. She crocheted bandages and sent them to Africa for many years. She enjoyed working word search and puzzle books, and was an excellent candy and cake maker. She held a statewide position as recording secretary with the Friends Church for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carroll in 2004; brothers, Carl Smith and Lloyd Smith; sisters, Ruth Noland, Dorothy Routh, and Opal Noland, and grandson, Samuel Noland.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Noland and wife Linda of Des Moines, Jim Noland and wife Linda Murken of Gilbert, and Don Noland and wife Marlene of Des Moines; grandchildren, Joseph and wife Veronica, Julia, Kara, Maggie and husband Jon, Dannie and wife Malinda, Ben and Kaleen, and great-grandchildren, Cash, Aaron, Stefani, Matt, Niesa, Mia, Ryan, Dylan, and Carson.

Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham, and Redfield was in charge of arrangements.
