Lyle Gene Livingston, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at United Methodist Church in Greenfield with Pastor David Rogers officiating. Janna Nelson was organist. Soloist Kathy Moon sang “In The Garden,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Recorded selections included “My Way” and “The Auctioneer.”

Bearers were Dick Addams, Dale Luhrs, Sheryl Gomez, Dennis Gomez, Tom Powell, and Roger Caltrider. Honorary bearers were Joshua Livingston, Jonas Ray, Jesse Clarke, Cliff Powell, Marty Powell, Marvin Whetstone, Don Clayton, Gene Kading, Ron Lyons, and Tom Christensen. Floral committee was Betty Lou Volz, Norene Clayton, and Jan Morgan.

Interment was in Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield with full military graveside rites by Menlo American Legion Glover-Buttler Post No. 511.

Lyle Gene Livingston was born Feb. 26, 1932 in Madison County, the son of Clarence Elwood and Blanche Mae (Ham) Livingston. He grew up in the Hebron area, and graduated from Zion High School in 1950. After graduation, he attended auctioneer school in Mason City. He served his country in the United States Army in Korea from 1953-1954.

On Feb. 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Joy Woodson in the Hebron United Methodist Church. To this union, two children were born, Jeffrey and Joy. He farmed on the current Century Farm since 1956. He was also an auctioneer. A highlight was auctioneering each year at the 4-H sale at the county fair.

Gene was a member of the Jefferson Center Church, American Legion, Pork Producers, served on the Adair County Extension Council, and was a 4-H leader for many years. He had worked at the Stuart Livestock Auction, Madison County Livestock Auction, and Cardinal IG. He dearly loved being with his grandchildren, raising livestock, especially his cattle, visiting with family and friends and going to coffee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carolyn, in 2002, brother, Jack Livingston, and sister, Lila Jackson.

Survivors include his second and last love, Patricia Ahnen of Des Moines; a son, Jeff Livingston (Glennda) of Fontanelle, daughter Joy Livingston (Ken Wehmas) of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, Joshua Livingston, Jill Livingston (Jonas Ray), Jasmine Clarke (Jesse), Victoria Genzen, Amanda Chesly (Jason, and David, Paula, and Neil Wehmas, four great-grandchildren, Cody and Carter Genzen and Cheyanne and Tyson Chesly, two brothers, Rex Livingston (Mary) of Fontanelle and Hugh Livingston (Shirley) of Indianola; sister-in-law, Kathy Livingston of Winterset, other relatives and friends.

Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield was in charge of arrangements.
