Page 6, Column 5Alvina Carolina was born August 17, 1893 in Greene County, Iowa to Christopher and Anna Petersen Horn and passed away December 31, 1980 at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
At the age of four years, Alvina moved with her parents to Madison County, near Winterset where she attended country school.
In 1909 she was united in marriage to Clem Brandenburg in Greenfield, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.
They farmed south of Stuart, moving in to town in 1956. She and Clem celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1959. His death occurred in 1962.
Alvina was a member of the Stuart Christian Church and the neighborhood Sunshine Club.
She had been residing at the Community Care Center since April of 1980.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Anna, three brothers, John, Ted and Tony Horn, an infant daughter, and a great grandchild.
Left to mourn the death of their wonderful and loving mother are her son, Carl and his wife, Blanche of Menlo, Iowa, and her daughter, Iona Frye of Sun City, California, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted January 3, 1981 at the Link Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. George Thurman officiating. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Doris Diddy, accompanied on the organ of Mrs. Daryl Nelson. Caring for the floral tributes were Mrs. Donald Clayton, Mrs. Donald Maas and Mrs. Everett Guthrie. Serving as casket bearers were Ronald Maas, Wayne Taylor, Donald Clayton, Carl Smith, Paul DeRosear and Boyd Welsh. Interment was in South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
