Page 4, Column 5Guy W. Garrett, of Stuart, Iowa, son of James A. Garrett and Dora K. Routt Garrett, was born on September 13, 1892 in Marceline, Missouri and died April 4, 1982 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 22 days.
He was raised and worked in coal mining communities near Centerville, Iowa until he moved to Des Moines in 1916, where he married Ruth Sumpter on December 24 of that year.
Following his service in the army during World War I, he and Ruth returned to Des Moines to raise their family of seven children. In 1962 he retired and moved to the Stuart area where he resided until his death.
He had been a Christian since 1942.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, of Earlham Manor, their three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Johnston of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Pauline Heck of Carlisle, Iowa and Mrs. Mary Garrison of Omaha, Nebraska, four sons, John, Robert and Donald of Stuart and William, of Dexter, two brothers, three sisters, 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The Rev. Dean Porter officiated at the funeral service on April 7, 1982 at the Link Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa. Music was provided by Merrill Womach. Serving as casket bearers were Donald Garrett Jr., John R. Garrett, Steven Richardson, David Richardson, Michael Richardson and Ron Pool. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Adair County, Iowa.
