Lilly Johnson, a long-time resident of the Stuart community, passed away early Monday morning, March 9, 1981 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She died of a heart ailment.

Lilly was born in Madison County, Iowa, near Winterset, on March 16, 1901 to David P. and Mertie Rehard Egy. She received her education in the rural Hooten School area.

On February 20, 1924 she was united in marriage to William C. Johnson at All Saints Church in Stuart. Six children were born to this union.

Lilly was a devoted Christian and held memberships in the Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She always had a willing and helping hand for others.

As a loving mother, she will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, two sisters, and her husband.

Surviving are her son and five daughters: William C. of Winterset, Iowa, Mary (Mrs. Floyd Schwarz) and Mrs. Veronica Chance of Newton, Iowa, Catherine (Mrs. William Mataya) and Naomi (Mrs. Leroy Bashor) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Cecelia (Mrs. Donald Schissel) of Omaha, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lowell Case of Newton, Iowa, three brothers, Ray, Joe, and Claude, of Winterset, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rev. Joseph Ryan celebrated the funeral mass March 11, 1981 at All Saints Church in Stuart. He was assisted at the altar by Steve Wagner, Philip and Marty Doud. Vocal music was rendered by David Tisl, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Robert Griffin. Boyd Welsh and Francis Wagner ushered. Serving as casket bearers were Ben W. Johnson, Randy C. Johnson, Charles L. Chance, Kenneth E. Chance, Mark R. Mataya, and Joseph W. Mataya. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
