Arthur W. Keller, a resident of Adair County the major portion of his life, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, March 9 at the Adair County Hospital after a lingering illness at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 16 days.

Mr. Keller, the son of Caroline and Walter Keller, was born in Madison County on April 25, 1901 and moved to Adair County at the age of nine. He was married on October 31, 1921 to Grace Phillips and to this union were born five children: Jack, Ethel, Raymond, Cecil, and Richard. They farmed in the Greenfield area until March of 1944 at which time they moved to a farm near Stuart which they later purchased. After retirement from farming, he was employed at the Stuart Sales Company for a period of four years. In December of 1970 they sold their farm and moved to Greenfield. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife Grace, a daughter Mrs. Robert (Ethel) Handley of Greenfield; four sons, Jack of Seattle, Raymond of Dexter, Cecil of Santa Clara, California, Richard of McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; eighteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Marion (Laura) Perkins of Des Moines and Mrs. Ross (Gertrude) Hepp of Elm Grove, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Everett and sister, Virginia.

Mr. Keller was of a generous and cheerful nature. Nothing was too much trouble when he could help someone. He was especially fond of children and was adored by his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Greenfield on Thursday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Eugene Sears and Rev. Harland Gant of Greenfield officiating.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Jack Keller, Jr., Douglas, Randall, and Terry Handley; Daniel, John, and Donald Keller and Virgil Baudler. Honorary pallbearers were Max Barr, Glen Urquhart, Don Powell, Pat Doud, Loren Squires, Floyd Faust, Art Mapes, and Garland Roberts. Mrs. Martha Barr, Mrs. Rita Faust, Mrs. Anita Squires and Mrs. Myrtle Luther had charge of the floral tributes. Interment was in the Greenfield cemetery.

Arthur Keller, Greenfield, Dies

GREENFIELD – Arthur W. Keller, 69, of Greenfield, died Tuesday at the Adair county Memorial hospital. He was a retired farmer who had farmed in Lincoln township of Adair county for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Greenfield United Methodist church. Burial will be in Greenfield cemetery. His body is at the Bickford-Murray funeral home.

Mr. Keller is survived by his widow, Grace; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Handley of Greenfield; four sons, Sgt. Richard Keller of McGuire Air Force Base, N. J., Jack Keller of Seattle, Wash., Raymond Keller of Dexter and Cecil Keller of Santa Clara, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and two sisters.
