Page 4, Column 4Jessie Ellen Sellers, daughter of John and Malona (Brink) Sellers, was born in Adair County, Iowa on November 4, 1889 and passed away due to a stroke at Adair County Memorial Hospital, Greenfield, Iowa on September 20, 1984.
Jessie grew up on a farm and spent much of her life living in rural areas of Adair and Madison counties. She enjoyed raising big gardens and canning fruits and vegetables. She seemed to enjoy hard work. In later years she spent much time reading her Bible.
On January 29, 1912 Jessie was married at Winterset, Iowa to Claude Clifton Jones. To this union was born four children. The eldest son, Claude Lloyd, died at the age of six years due to scarlet fever. Jessie and “Casey” traveled down life’s pathway together until his death on December 27, 1960.
For many years Jessie lived in southwest Stuart until poor health caused her to have to move from her home to a mobile home near her son south of Stuart. She had resided at Greenfield Manor the past one year and eight months.
Surviving are her sons, Harold of Winterset, Iowa, and Lester of Stuart, Iowa; her daughter, Naomi Wheeler of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Rev. Peter Quiring officiated at the funeral service on September 24, 1984 at the Link Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa. Music was provided by Merrill Womach. Casket bearers were James Wheeler, Glen Jones, Cecil Waddell, Dean Bash, Cecil Jones and Carl Denning. Interment was in South Oak Grove Cemetery.
