Page 7, Column 4Mary Emma Gilbert, daughter of Truman and Osa Gilbert was born February 18, 1895 in Madison County, Iowa. She passed away April 21, 1970, at the Greenfield Rest Home at the age of 75 years.
When four years old she moved with her family to Guthrie County and since then lived in the Menlo and Stuart vicinity. In early life she was baptized and became a member of the Christian Church at Glendon, Iowa.
She was a member of the Menlo Rebekah Lodge for over 45 years.
On September 20, 1916, she was married to Freddie Ray Lyst.
Surviving are her husband and a daughter Freda and husband, Raymond Taylor. Also a nephew, Freddie Wheeler, who was a member of the family for many years. There are five grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Mrs. David (Janet) Herkelman, Joie Taylor, Ronald Taylor, and Robert and Richard Taylor. There are five great-grandchildren. Four sisters and one brother are living, Mrs. Mae Hazel, Mrs. Della Wheeler, Mrs. Bruce (Orilda) Flesher, Mrs. Clohe Ross and Omer Gilbert, besides many devoted nieces and nephews. Her parents and one sister Lorna Bookout, preceded her in death.
During her life she appreciated he many friends and relatives who took time to visit her and showed much kindness.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, April 23, from the Link Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Russell Vanderhoef officiating. Robert Lawson played organ selections. Assisting with the floral tributes were Mrs. Dean Moffitt and Mrs. Jack Cupp. Pallbearers were Dean Moffitt, Jack Cupp, Harold Wheeler, Homar Carl, Elmer Sheeder and George Wheeler. Interment was in Rosehill Cemetery at Menlo.
