Richard Clayton Thompson, youngest son of Verle Thompson and Viola Murphy, was born at Earlham, Iowa on October 21, 1945 and departed from this life August 14, 1971 at the age of 25 years.

Richard attended school in Redfield and before his graduation he joined the army to defend his country.

Richard was united in marriage to Georgina Buttler, March 14, 1970 at Menlo, Iowa. This union was blessed with one daughter, Michele Lee.

His mother and one brother preceded him in death. Richard leaves besides his wife Georgina and baby Michele, his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Verle Thompson of Des Moines; three brothers, Jerald Thompson of Des Moines, Merlin McCleary of Davenport, Kenneth Burden of Linden; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Camp of Lewisville, Texas, Mrs. Billy Thompson of Redfield, Mrs. Wendell Spencer of Topeka, Kansas and Mrs. Gary Allen of Winterset; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Zella Thompson of Dexter; his father and mother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Bill Buttler, a number of brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 17 from the United Methodist Church at Menlo with Rev. Duane Manning officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. O. V. Buttler, organist. Assisting with the flowers were Frances Holland and Kathy Kounkel. Pallbearers were Gary Beane, Dan Carney, Gary Allen, Norman Wolfe, David Lantz and Charles Thompson. Interment was in Rosehill Cemetery at Menlo.
