Emma, daughter of William Steinke and Elizabeth Nenckt Steinke, was born July 25, 1892 in Germany and passed from this life September 18, 1977 at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to George J. Hauf and seven children were born to this union. Her lifework was spent as a housewife and mother. Emma was a member of the Lutheran Church. Her other interests included quilting, crocheting and other handiwork.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband George, and a daughter, Frieda Nieman. Surviving are three sons: Joh D. of Dexter, Iowa, Albert J. of Nevada, Missouri and Gustav B. of Greeley, Colorado; three daughters: Mrs. Elsie Fiebelkorn of Gregory, South Dakota, Mrs. Alvina Nieman of Oroville, California and Mrs. Clara Manke, of Salem, Oregon; 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, on brother Emil Steinke and three sisters: Bertha Eisenbraun, Molly Goehring and Frieda Hoeft, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 1977 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, South Dakota, with Rev. David Haverkorn officiating. Organ music was provided by Clark Horn and serving as casket bearers were: Bill Wonnenberg, Art Willie, Ray Hoffman, Mike Syfie, Elmer Horn and Delbert Miller. Interment was in Dallas Cemetery, Dallas, South Dakota.
