Henry A. Gilman was born in Adair County, August 26, 1879. He was the son of Jewett D. and Milcena Gilman.

In 1906 he was married to Dora Ketelsen. Four boys were born to this union: Everett, Roy, Carl and Curtis and one daughter, Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Margaret, and sisters, Esther and Laura; also brothers: Ed, Charles, Clyde and Albert. His brother, Milo, survives.

Henry reared his family on a farm 2 ½ miles west of Earlham and moved to Stuart in 1951. He has always enjoyed living close to nature, and thus his farm life among the trees, plants and animals was his greatest heritage. He was a man of few complaints and was concerned over the welfare of others above himself. His spirit and presence will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Stuart Methodist Church.

Mr. Gilman also leaves 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to mourn his loss.

He passed away Tuesday evening, May 7, 1968 at the Greenfield Hospital at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 9 from the Stuart Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Textor officiating. Music was presented by Mrs. Richard Wood, organist. Assisting with the floral tributes were Mrs. Virgil Beane, Mrs. Robert Bristol and Mrs. Grace Pote. Pallbearers were Howard Gilman, Craig Gilman, Wayne Gilman, Roger Gilman, Kenneth Gilman and Gordon Powell. Interment was in South Oak Grove cemetery.
