Viola Jean Parker was born on January 7, 1931, in Marion County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Vander Linden) Parker. She grew up near Bussey; graduated from Bussey High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught for a couple years in the Mingo Schools but stopped teaching when she married Francis L. Faust on February 14, 1954, at the Marquisville Evangelical Church in Des Moines.

Most of Viola’s working years were spent on the farm where she helped Francis; milking cows, tending livestock and gardening, as well as raising their children. She also sold World Book Encyclopedias and retired as a cashier at Walgreens in Valley West Mall.

Viola was a member of the Early Chapel Christian Church, where she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Covered Bridge Quilters Guild. She was a 4-H leader for many years and member of Farm Bureau. She also loved her flower gardening, enjoyed scrapbooking and baking. She was an excellent cook and always made ham balls for any family dinner she hosted.

All this said, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished time with family.

Viola is survived by her husband of 63 years, Francis Faust of Dexter; her four children, Diana (Arlan) Engelbrecht of Davenport, Dennis (Tracy) Faust of Dexter, Danny (Connie) Faust of Earlham, Donna (Mark) Aman of Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Corey (Erin) Engelbrecht, Kevin (Hannah) Engelbrecht, Craig (Heidi) Engelbrecht, Jodi Faust, Rebecca Faust, Jessica Faust, Crystal Faust, Andrew Faust, Spencer Faust, Jenna Faust, Alberto Garza and Valerie Aman; 18 great grandchildren, Chloe, Caelan, Cole and Colin Engelbrecht; Dalton, Bentley, Rowan, Parker and Ezra Engelbrecht; Gage, Eli, Owen and Claire Engelbrecht; Jaydon and Barrett Songer; Justin and Caleb Decker and Talib Faust; a sister, Josephine Exline of Chariton; extended family and a host of friends.

Preceding Viola in death were her parents; her daughter, Heidi Faust; six brothers, Harold, Floyd, James, Roy, Marion and John Parker; two sisters, Leona Dean and Mabel Harlow and grandson, Kurt Engelbrecht.
