Mrs. Lucinda Phipps

Mrs. Lucinda Phipps was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, on August 3, 1839, and departed this life March 17, 1915, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 14 days. She united with the M. E. church in early life, and lived a Christian until death.

She moved with her parents to Madison county, Iowa, in 1847, and in the year 1849 was united in marriage to James Martin and to this union were born three children, Lincoln, Emma, and Henry, all three preceding her to the better world, her husband dying in the civil war in 1862.

She was again married to James Phipps in 1866 and to this union there were born seven children, Lillie Belle, E. F., J. H., C. R., N. G., I. H., and M. M. Two of these preceded her to the better world, Lillie Belle dying at the age of 19, and Nellie Riddle dying at the age of 24. Their father died in the year 1894 at the age of 71, and the other five, Elmer, of Bates county, Missouri; James and Charley of Decatur county, Iowa; Iver, of Boreing, Oregon; and Mollie of Glasgow, Montana, are living.

Elmer Phipps of Topeka, Kansas, came Thursday, being called here by the sickness and death of his mother, Mrs. Lucinda Phipps.

Mrs. Lucinda Phipps died at the home of her son Charles Phipps who lives west of town Wednesday morning at about 3 o’clock, the funeral being held from the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 1 p. m., conducted by Rev. Frank Jacobs, of the Leon Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Decatur cemetery. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.
