Mrs. J.N. Clark, whose serious illness was noted in these columns last week, died on Friday morning. Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ on Sunday afternoon and the interment made in the Winterset cemetery.

Death of Mrs. J.N. Clark

Sylvia Darnall, daughter of George T. and Elizabeth Darnall, was born in Winterset, Iowa. 18 July 1862 and died at her home in the southwest part of the city on Friday, February 16, 1906.

She was married to Joel N. Clark on September 28, 1880 and to this union were born three children, Opal, Delbert and Goldie. She united with the Church of Christ in 1897, together with her entire family and has lived a consistent Christian life, doing everything for her church and community that her enfeebled condition would permit. In her home she was a devoted wife and loving mother, and her noble Christian life is a fit example for others. Mrs. Clark had been an invalid for almost thirteen years and everything that loving hands and medical skill could do was without avail, and through it all she bore her suffering with the greatest of patience.

She was of a lovable disposition and won the admiration of all who knew her.

The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Church of Christ. A.D. Veatch, a former pastor officiating, and the remains tenderly laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.

Coordinator's note: Her middle name "Elizabeth" is unverified. Some researchers claim her middle name is "Sophia", taken from her Madison County Marriage Record, but that is likely an erroneous transcription of "Sylvia" from the marriage return into the marriage book.
