REX ELWOOD ARMSTRONG, Ankeny, Ia

1921- 2017

Rex Armstrong was born February 25, 1921, in St. Charles, IA to James and Amy Armstrong. He passed away June 23, 2017, at the age of 96.

Rex proudly served his country with the United States Air Force as a Fighter Pilot during WWII and the Korean War, and then continued his service with the Iowa Air National Guard. After his discharge from the service, he went to work for Firestone International where he managed plants in India, Latin America, and Des Moines until his retirement.

Rex belonged to the Auburn Union Park Masonic Lodge and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine for more than 50 years.

Rex was a great and supportive uncle who aided in the development and success of his nephew's company, D & K Products. He spent many days giving of himself, expecting nothing in return to help the business flourish, even up until his passing.

Rex is survived by his daughter, Sharon Armstrong; grandchildren, Monica, Darla, Sara, Kevin Patrick, Micah, and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Audrey, and Kayla; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; son, Patrick William; parents, James and Amy; and his siblings, Kathryn Krantz, Loal Stewart, Mary Weeks, and Bonnie Buckroyd.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Central Community Free Methodist Church in Des Moines or to New Oaks Nazarene Church in Washington, IA.
