December 15, 1932 - June 15, 2017

Gaylene Stephens, 84, of Winterset, died Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends during this time.

A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, at the funeral home with burial immediately following in the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Madison County.

Memorials may be directed to the Oak Grove Community Church.

Dalace Gaylene Stephens, daughter of Bernard and Irvel (Corneli) Ringberg, was born December 15, 1932, in Grant Township, Union County, Iowa. She graduated from Arispe High School in 1950, where she played basketball and softball. She was united in marriage with William Stephens on April 16, 1951, in Osceola.

Gaylene was a dedicated homemaker and farmwife. She was a member of the Pitzer Presbyterian Church where she played organ, sang in the choir and was active in women’s group. She also helped at the election office. Gaylene enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She liked watching TV; Matlock and Murder, She Wrote, NASCAR, golf, and watching Iowa and ISU football. She was a wonderful cook and baker, known for her homemade salted nut rolls, and enjoyed canning. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished the time spent with her family.

Gaylene is survived by her five children, Randy Stephens of Winterset, Robert (Jeanie) Stephens of Winterset, Nancy (Ron) Norris of Kent, Diana (Jeff) Jackson of St. Charles, and Beverly (Doug) Korshun of West Des Moines; a brother, Marvin Ringberg of Shannon City; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; great-grandchild, Max in infancy; and sister-in-law, Alice Ringberg.
