Services for Rolland Ackermann, 79, of Alta are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Alta, Dr. Clarence Beard will officiate. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Jones-Barker Funeral Home, Alta.

Ackermann died May 7, 1985 at his home in Alta.

Ackermann was born Sept. 26, 1905, near Earlham. He attended rural school near Lake City and graduated from Providence Consolidated High School in Sulphur Springs. He attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake from 1926 until 1928. He received his B. S. degree from George Washington University in 1935 and was named to Who’s Who in Science in 1963. He married Helen Donaldson Nov. 9, 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received the rank of commander after 21 years of service. He was employed in the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1967. After his retirement, they lived in Silver Springs, Md. until moving to Alta in 1973.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Izaak Walton League, Elks Lodge and AARP.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard E. of Death Valley, Nev.; one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Carol) Mitchell of Sherborn, Mass.; three grandchildren; one brother, Casper of Vista, Calif. And one sister, Mrs. Henry (Helen) Hancock of Newport News, Va.
