RICHARD BLAKE IS DEAD

Answers the Call and Passed into the Beyond Saturday Morning at 4 O’clock

Again has the death angel visited our community and took away one of our citizens Richard Blake. Mr. Blake was born at Hiresphere, Somersetshire, England, Nov. 5, 1842, and died at his home in Guthrie Center, Iowa, Saturday, Jan. 21, 1922, aged 69 years, 2 months and 16 days.

Mr. Blake came to America landing in New York, June 9, 1869, traveling westward he stopped and remained in Ohio for some time. Later he came to Madison county, Iowa where he spent about three years. Here he met his wife, Miss Almira Frazee, and was united in marriage, Jan. 16, 1879.

Moving to Audubon county, Iowa they settled on a farm in Melville township the following spring, and there made their permanent home until 1910. Retiring from the strenuous labor of the farm, they came to Guthrie Center, which has been his home up to the time of his death.

To Mr. and Mrs. Blake were born five children, namely; James R. Blake of Guthrie Center, Mrs. Anna Wilson of Guthrie Center, Mrs. Mary Parsons of Portland, Oregon; John W. Blake of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and Orpha who died in infancy; besides his aged wife survive to mourn his going. Three brothers Jas. Blake of Audubon, and Joseph and Wm. Blake of England are left. Also a multitude of friends who will miss and mourn him.

Mr. Blake was always a hard working man, toiling early and late, that his loved ones might enjoy the comforts of life. He was an upright citizen, a kind neighbor and a faithful and loving husband and father.

He has been a great sufferer, and for several years almost helpless, but bore this with great fortitude, never impatient, but always cheerful, and thoughtful of others. For the past five weeks he has been bedfast and in a helpless condition, until Saturday morning at 4 o’clock, God came to his relief and took his spirit to be with Him. He was a member of the Lone Star Presbyterian church.

The funeral was held Monday. A short prayer service was held at the home in this place, after which the remains were taken to Bowman Chapel where services were conducted by Rev. R. Bruce West, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, this city. A large concourse of people were present to pay their last respect to his memory. Interment was made in Bowman Chapel cemetery.
