Release For James Hill, 78

DEXTER: Release was given James Hill, 78, from a lingering illness on May 12. Services were held at the Dexter Presbyterian Church by Rev. Charles White and Rev. John Latta.

Active casket bearers were Roy Zuck, John Hadley, Calvin Scott, Floyd Holmes, Harry Giles and Gerry Drake. Honorary bearers were Ned Drake, Harley Duff, Harry Dunmire, James Adkins Sr., Russell Horn and Chester Ledlie. Ushers were Don Hurst and James McMenamin.

In charge of flowers were Wanda Hurst, Jane Drake and Marie Atherton. Music was rendered by Nadine Shepherd, organist and Kenneth Shepherd, vocalist.

James Durward Hill passed away in the Dexter Hospital May 12, 1967, after a lingering illness. He was born at Mason, Illinois, July 22nd, 1888, the eldest son of Joel Bruff and Margaret Curran Hill.

At 16 years of age, he joined the Methodist church. In 1908 he moved with his parents, brothers, and sister to Iowa, where they made their home on a farm near Dexter.

On July 13, 1911, he was married to Bernice Crane. To this union four daughters were born: Margaret Metz of Madison, Wisconsin, Nina Fleischer of Wichita Falls, Texas, (Deceased), Irene Scott of Dexter, Iowa and Florence Piercy of Earlham, Iowa.

Moving to a farm in Madison county in 1912, they spent the following 25 years farming in Madison and Adair counties. They moved to Dexter in 1937. In 1938, he joined the Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for 26 years.

His parents, two sisters, two brothers, daughter and granddaughter preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Bernice, three daughters, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
