Services were held at the Dexter Methodist Church Monday afternoon for Edgar W. Drake who passed away September 15 at Iowa City. Rev. John Latta was in charge of the services with Robert Lawson furnishing the music. Mrs. Fred Morford, Mrs. Harry Giles and Mrs. Clara Lee were in charge of the flowers. Serving as pallbearers were George Hart, Floyd Hart, Ivan Hart, Harry Giles, William Drake and Frederick Clausen. Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery.
OBITUARY
Edgar Washburn Drake, known to his relatives and friends as Ned, was born in Des Moines, June 1, 1896 and passed away at the Veterans Hospital at Iowa City September 15, 1967 at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 14 days.
Ned lived with his parents, Wm. M. Drake and Mary Maria Morse Drake in Norton County, Kansas until 1900 at which time the family moved to Madison County, Iowa where he grew up.
He served with the Army during World War One after which he joined his brother, Warren in Trail City, South Dakota, where he homesteaded a ranch.
At this time he met Cecil M. Marshall from Sioux Falls. They were married May 15, 1920. To this union were born six children, all boys, Leonard, Glenn, Lauerence, Garry, David and Wesley.
In February, 1925, they moved to the farm north of Dexter, where Ned resided at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife and children, one sister Cora Clausen, 24 grandchildren and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Drake and one sister, Nina Hart.
He was a member of the Methodist Church of Dexter, and of the Odd Fellows Lodge 215 of Dexter and of the Rebeccas.
