Joan Harlan

Joan Rhoda (Nichols) Harlan, 78, beloved and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grand-mother, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

She was born August 28, 1938, to George R. & Helen Lenora (Mardis) Nichols in Winterset, Iowa. Joan married the love of her life, Keith, November 10, 1956, and was always lovingly devoted to her family.

Joan enjoyed her crafts, playing the piano and china painting, but even more, she loved giving these beautiful works of art away to her friends and loved ones, which shows her true heart and loving spirit.

She loved unconditionally, with an open heart. Her family always came first, she prayed for everyone by name daily and was the first to call for birthdays, anniversaries, and showing her joking spirit, on April Fool’s Day.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George & Helen as well as her brothers, George Nichols and Fred Nichols.

Joan is survived by her husband of 60 years, Keith; three children, Rick & Mary Harlan, Cindy & Brian Breen, and Pam & Mike Wagner; 8 grandchildren, Crystal & Joe Niforos, Andrea & Ed Scow, Jesse & Emilee Harlan, Janny & Ryan Crotty, Nicole Wagner, Casey & Andrew Bozarth, Megan & Sean Coetzee, and Lacy & Shannon Crall; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda & Ron Osborne.

She will always be remembered for her love of family, and desire for everyone to be together and feel loved. We love you and miss you.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 1st Assembly of God Church in Atlantic.

Burial in the Atlantic Cemetery will take place prior to the service at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the family for designation at a later date to a cause that was dear to Joan's heart.

Roland Funeral Service is caring for Joan's family and her arrangements.
