Robert Ratliff, an honored and beloved citizen of Alfalfa was born in Ohio, May 1, 1848, and died June 22, 1912 at Sulphur, Oklahoma where he had gone for health.
He was converted to the Christian religion at the age of forty five and united with the Baptist church. He was one of the most devoted men in the community. He was always kind and gentle.
Bro. Ratliff selected the songs for his funeral. He also selected his pallbearers and gave full directions concerning his burial, and then said: “I now stand on the bank of Jordon and will soon cross over.”
Rev. Crabtree and Rev. Danner conducted the funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 24. The service was held in the Baptist church of Alfalfa. Those who could not get in the church stood at the doors and windows and in the yard.
The sermon was preached from the text: “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” ----Carnegie, Oklahoma Herald.
