Taken Sick After Picnic on Fourth, Was Subject to Heart Disease. Once Winterset’s Methodist Pastor
Rev. R. W. Matheney, for four years pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, died suddenly at his home in Nevada, Saturday morning, of heart disease.
Mr. Matheney had attended a Fourth of July picnic near Nevada where he was stationed and was taken ill. He was subject to heart disease and it was on this account that two or three weeks ago he had traded a farm of Kansas land near Levenworth for a small farm near Winterset expecting to make his home near the town where he was so popular and which he liked so well.
He died Saturday morning. The funeral was held at Nevada and the burial was at Indianola. A number of people from Winterset and from the other towns in Southern Iowa where he had served a long and able career as a Methodist minister, attended the funeral.
