ARTHUR S. SHREVES, St Charles, Ia

Arthur S. Shreves, son of Samuel R. Shreves and Linnie V. Wick Shreves was born February 20, 1916 in Martensdale, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, January 30, 2017 at Winterset Care Center South at 100 years of age.

Arthur received his education in the Martensdale Community Schools and later attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines graduating in 1935. Soon after graduation, Art took out a loan in order to relocate to California to find a job. A short time later, Maxine L. Neuman joined Art in California and they were united in marriage on July 5, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA. Art soon began working for Lockheed Martin in California and remained there until he received his draft notice from the United States Army. Art served his country during World War II attaining the rank of Tec 4 and served overseas where he received the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Art was honorably discharged in 1946 and he and Maxine returned to St. Charles, Iowa a short time later.

Art began his own trucking business in St. Charles where he hauled rock and lime to many worksites over the years. He was a member of St. Charles Lions Club; Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Rolling Wheels Camping Club in St. Charles. Art was an avid fisherman and built his own fishing boat in the basement of his house one year. He enjoyed traveling to Canada with family for many years on fishing excursions and also loved traveling with Maxine to Florida, Arizona and Texas in the winters.

Those relatives who preceded Art in death were his parents; wife, Maxine L. Shreves, great-grandparents, Jonah and Elizabeth Lonkabauch Shreves; great-grandparents, James L. and Lydia A. Wick; sister, Doris Cushing and brother, Delmar Shreves,

Arthur leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Jill (Lynn) Chambers of St. Charles, IA; grandson, Kyle (Ashley) Chambers of Carlisle, IA; great-grandson, Aidan Chambers of Carlisle, IA; step-grandson, Todd Chambers of Webster City, IA; step-grandson, Aaron (Mary Kay) Chambers of Winterset, IA; step-grandson, James (Sonya) Chambers of Norwalk, IA; step-great grandchildren, Cody, Steffen and Sawyer Chambers of Webster City, IA and Colton and Morgan Chambers of Norwalk, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.
