Hazel Snider, 90, of Griswold, formerly of Winterset, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday Jan. 30, at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold, with interment in the Catholic Section at Pleasant Township Cemetery.
Hazel Marie Snider, the daughter of John Peter and Minnie May (Kemling) Silk, was born on a farm west of Griswold. Hazel attended Rose Hill Country School and graduated from Griswold High School.
She took normal training and taught at Nyman. Hazel was united into marriage to Larry Mewhirter; from this union, two children were born. They lived in several places and Hazel worked as a waitress at several different cafes. They moved to Winterset where she worked at Harrison's. She married Carol Snider and continued living in Winterset. After Carol died, Hazel returned to Griswold where she remained until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, brothers an sisters: Lee, Marjorie, Harry (Jake) , Russell, Doris, Dorothy, Frank, Norma, Harold, Elmer and Velma.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Rose), Mewhirter and Mike (Marilee) Mewhirter; three grandchildren, and several other relatives and friends.
