Charles F. Roark, 77, died Sunday in the Dexter Clinic. He had been in poor health since the death of his wife last May.

Roark came to Stuart about 13 years ago. Last May he was taken to a nursing home in Panora, where he remained until his last illness.

Charles F. Roark, son of James R. and Sarah Roark, was born at Earlham in Madison county, April 1, 1872, and departed this life in the Dexter Clinic, March 5, 1950, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and five days.

He attended the rural schools and later the Dexter Normal school. He taught school for three years, later connecting himself in the lumber business in West Des Moines and Greenfield. He was married to Annie Y. Smith on Oct. 10, 1900. No children were born to this union.

He served as Clerk of the Courts in Adair county for four years, and was mayor of Greenfield for several years. He was in the produce business in Casey for 10 years.

For the past 20 years, he has been a resident of Stuart, until the death of his wife, May 3, 1949. He had been an invalid for seven years, with a heart ailment, and for the past 10 months he has been cared for by Minnie Farwell at her Home for the Aged in Panora, where he received excellent care.

He was a life-long member of the Methodist church, and until his heart failed was active in the church and Sunday school. He was a sincere bible student, and served his Maker in the true Christian spirit, doing unto others, as he would have them do to him. He lived a life of honesty and integrity. His parents, one sister and two brothers preceded him in death. One brother, Edgar of West Des Moines, survives him.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 8, from the Linn Funeral home, under the direction of Rev. Harold Jackson. He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Penn Center cemetery.
