Page 10Annie Y. Smith, daughter of George H. and Sarah Smith, was born in Lincoln township, Adair County, May 6, 1871, and departed this life May 3, 1949 at her home in Stuart, Iowa.
She spent the greater part of her life near Stuart, and taught in the schools of Adair county. She was a life long member of the Methodist church and spent much time in the service of the church. Because of illness, she has been unable to attend in recent years. She has spent much time in visiting the sick bringing cheer with thoughtful deeds.
On October 10, 1900 she was united in marriage to Charles F. Roark. No children were born to this union. They lived many years in Greenfield and Casey. For the past 8 years they have made their home in Stuart.
In every community where she lived, everyone was her friend, for she radiated her sunny disposition to everyone with whom she came in contact. Her deeds of kindness to old and young alike endeared her to everyone. Her love for flowers and sharing them with others brought her much joy.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and one sister, Aurelia McKee of Stuart; four nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services were held Thursday from the Linn Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Harold Jackson. Flowers were arranged by Mrs. E. G. Barringer, Mrs. Fred Schmidt, Mrs. Joe Roberts and Mary Holmes. Casketbearers were Elmer Swanson, Edgar Brown, George Eversull and Art Eversull. Interment was in Penn Center cemetery.
