WEST LIBERTY – Dr. Edward E. Hale, 76, of West Liberty, died this morning at the home after a lengthy illness.
The body has been willed to the University of Iowa. A memorial service will be at a later date. The Snider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Hale was born Jan. 18, 1905, at Glen Avon, Ill., a son of James Allen and Nina Smith Hale. On Nov. 8, 1929, at Monmouth, Ill., he married Naomi Musser. He was a graduate of the College of Dentistry at UI and established practice in West Liberty in 1931. He retired in 1975. He was active in the Muscatine County Dental Society and was named a life member of the Iowa State Dental Association in 1971.
Dr. Hale was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Dental Corps during WW II and retired a major. He was a member and past commander of the Mansel Phillips Legion Post and served as service officer for several years. He also was member and past commander of the Iowa City Chapter of the DAV, a member of the Mount Calvery Masonic Lodge, and of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Janet (Gary) Smith of Burlington, Mrs. Ruth (Alan) Skelley of Iowa City, and Mrs. Mae (Robert) Collins of Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Edward E. of Moline, Ill., and James A. of Quantico, Va.; and 13 grandchildren.
