JOANN CLEGHORN, Winterset

January 15, 1940 - December 24, 2016

JoAnn Cleghorn, 76, of Winterset, died Saturday, December 24, 2016.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League, and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com.

JoAnn Cleghorn, daughter of John and Menelva (Weist) Biery, was born January 15, 1940, in Kingsbury, South Dakota. JoAnn was united in marriage with Conrad Cleghorn on May 25, 1958, in Carlisle, Iowa, and six children were born to this union.

JoAnn worked as a supervisor for many of the nursing homes in the Winterset area and was known for her compassion. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in the tranquility of nature. JoAnn had a passion for taking care of animals and observing them in their natural habitats. She lived her life with a love for her family, a passion for nature and wildlife, and a special place in her heart for “strays” who often found their home with her. JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who treasured the time she was able to spend with her family and friends.

JoAnn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Conrad Cleghorn of Winterset; six children, Dale (Michell) Cleghorn of Winterset; Jodene (Gary) DeVault of Indianola; Leann (Gregg) Matlage of Winterset; Michelle (Jorge) Luna of Schertz, Texas; Paul (Erin) Cleghorn of Dexter; Dawn Galvan of Universal City, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Smith of Spirit Lake; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Menelva Biery and three brothers, Gerald “Mike” Biery, Donald “Pudge” Biery and Ronald “Swede” Biery.
