Mabel A. Putney, 80, of the Monroe Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Brodhead, Wisconsin, passed away October 24, 1988 at St. Clare Hospital, Monroe, Wisconsin.

She was born on December 10, 1907 in Earlham, Iowa, the daughter of William and Cevilla (Bennett) Taylor. She married Earl Wesley Putney on July 14, 1927 at the Presbyterian Church in Earlham, Iowa. They farmed in Adair County, Iowa, and in 1947 moved to Route 3, Brodhead, Wisconsin where she resided until her husband’s death on January 24, 1977.

At that time she sold their farms and moved to Brodhead where she resided with her daughter, Judy McKinney, and granddaughter, Ruth McKinney, who cared for her after the death of her husband. She was a very active 4-H leader in the Avon 4-H Club and also an active member of the Avon Homemakers for many years.

She is survived by one son, Earl C. Putney of Brodhead; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Ruby) Bladorn of Route 1, Ordfordville, Mrs. James (Fern) Gould, Mrs. Ed (Judith) Jones and Mrs. Dennis (Sherrie) Pryce, all of Brodhead; one sister, Mrs. Mary Cook of Brodhead; three brothers, DeVere Taylor of Brodhead, Henry Taylor of Winterset, Iowa and Charlie Taylor of St. Joseph, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Earline in 1939; a son, Earl William in 1944, and two brothers, Arthur and Glen.

Funeral services were conducted October 28, 1988 at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead, Wisconsin, with the Rev. Philip M. Jones of Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe, officiating. Burial was in Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
