Emmett B. Lamb was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, March 11, 1860 and came to Warren county, this state, at the age of four years. He was converted and joined the Methodist church when 12 years old. A ready speaker, of an energetic nature and loving to contribute to every good cause, he became a very useful man in all the activities of the church.

He was first married in 1882 to Linna Anderson of Spring Hill who passed to the better land 12 years later, leaving a daughter and son. These now survive him with their second mother Jennie McGinnis Lamb, to whom he was married March 21, 1898.

For more than 20 years, Mr. Lamb was a successful teacher in the public schools of Warren and other counties. Many former pupils recognize his hand in the shaping of their careers.

In 1905, Mr. Lamb and wife removed to Des Moines, where he was engaged in mercantile pursuits for about 13 years, but suffering a nervous breakdown, his physician advised a rest, so they came in the spring of 1917 to the girlhood home of Mrs. Lamb, later moving into St. Charles. It early became apparent that Mr. Lamb would not regain his health and as the months went by the terrible pain increased. Through it all, he was the same kind, patient husband and father the same genial neighbor and friend to those who visited him. At last, after seven months of intense suffering, he passed quietly away to that country where the inhabitants, never say, “I am sick.”

His pastor, Rev. Mr. Orcutt, conducted the funeral services, employing the words of St. Paul: “For me to live is Christ, but to die is gain.” It was a sermon to strengthen faith and comfort bereaved hearts. The old hymns, favorites of the deceased, were beautifully sung. All the kind offices performed by those of the church and community will be treasured memories.
